Workforce Development Program
The Workforce Development Program assists companies to assess human resource (HR) management needs and develop and implement HR and workforce training and development plans.
The objectives of the Workforce Development Program are:
- To provide assistance to companies with little or no capacity to develop human resource (HR) management plans to maximize the contribution of their workforce to achieving business goals.
- To assist companies to develop and implement workforce training and development to contribute to achieving business goals.
- Assistance provided may be one or more of:
- direct service delivery
- brokering relevant internal and external resources
- funding support for training and HR development activities
Program Information:
- The program is application based and applications are received and reviewed on a continuous intake process.
- Eligible applicants include private, for-profit companies with a Canadian Business Number and licensed to carry on business in Manitoba.
- Support under this program is custom-prepared on a client-by-client basis. The amount of funding assistance provided is based on numerous factors including the net economic and other benefits to the Province of Manitoba, training reasons, outcomes and costs, workforce impact, etc.
- The main target group is small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs); however, funding is available to large companies as well, particularly those operating in highly competitive markets where innovation/new product development are required to retain market share, and the company is a strong contributor to Manitoba and/or the regional economy.
- Main training focus is internally delivered training not available from external training providers and/or training related to proprietary products, processes, information.
- Funding offsets productivity loss resulting from taking internal trainers and employees off the job to participate in training.
- Funding can be used by SMEs to hire external support to assist in building company capacity and/or to develop and deliver internal training, particularly related to proprietary products and processes. (e.g. develop HR management strategy, identify and prioritize training to meet business goals).
