Factors influencing Manitoba’s future workforce

A number of different components of our population influence changes in the available workforce.

Losses:

  • Out-migration – Manitoba will lose 24,000 more workers to other provinces between 2022 and 2026 than it will gain from other parts of Canada.
  • Retirement and deaths – 78,100 workers, or 15,600 workers per year, will leave the workforce due to retirement and deaths by the end of 2026.

Gains:

  • New entrants – An estimated 64,000 new entrants, or 12,800 per year, will join Manitoba’s workforce for the first time after finishing their education.
  • Immigration – International immigration continues to be an important contributor to growing Manitoba’s population and workforce. An estimated 36,000 additional workers will be available over the next five years due to immigration to Manitoba.
